Hey, Welcome To Our Country!
Every day that goes, there is war in Syria. The people living there are unsafe. They are starving because the lack of food, they get damaged when the bombs hit the ground and they lose someone or something they love, every single day. Children have no longer access to education and there are few jobs to find. The feeling of being safe is completely gone. And there's only one way out, to escape.
Some of the people from Syria have been very brave and taken this opportunity. The students in the 9th grade at Batnfjord, have been so lucky and got the chance to interview them and hear what they have to say.
Why did you escape from Syria?
- There is a big war going on in Syria, many bombs and battles. It is a very bad situation there right now, and I do not want to be one of the people who kill others, Mohamad and Khaldoun says.
How did you come to Norway?
- First i moved from Syria, it was a long way to Lebanon. After Lebanon we went to turkey and took a 2 hours boat trip to an island in Greece. It was a very dangerous trip, Mohammed says. I was passing through Macedonia, Serbia, Hungarian, Germany and Austria Kingdom before i came to Norway.
Khaldoun says he came in the same way as Mohammed. Just that he also went through Denmark and Sweden.
- We walked across the border on foot and it was very scary, since it's illegal. But it went well since we were several together, continue Mohammed.
Do you have family in Syria? Do you miss them?
- I have two sisters in Syria, i miss them very much. They suffer under the war. Sometimes I get to talk with them through the phone, but that is just occasionally, says Mohammed
- My mom and dad are still in Syria, and I miss them very much, Khaldoun continues.
Have you ever wanted to go back and save them?
- Not until the war ends, it is very dangerous to go back there now. But I yearn for my house, my neighbours and my family.
- I'm not sure. I want to see them again but, I do not know if they gonna be still alive, says Khaldoun.
These two men have been through more than we can imagine, we think that they are very brave. They live now safely in Norway.
Excellent interview, and it is really nice to see you have become friends with our new Norwegian citizens.
